Are you considering a career as an independent insurance agent?  Excellent!  There are many opportunities for agents right here in Maine!  First, you will need to acquire a Maine Producer License to sell insurance.  If you are ready for the exam now you can schedule to take the State of Maine Producer exam with Pearson Vue.  Visit them online at www.pearsonvue.com for additional information  PearsonVue is now scheduling online State exams for single lines of Authority only:  Life, Health, Property or Casualty.  As of now they will NOT be allowing online exams for combined Property/Casualty or combined Life/Health. You will still have to schedule and go to the physical testing location for those.

If you want to reinforce your studies with a classroom overview of the materials, we encourage you to register for an upcoming 3 day pre-licensing class with us.  The Maine Property/Casualty Pass Package includes the Study Book and an online Practice Exam.  The 3 day class INCLUDES the pass package (book and practice exam).

Licensing Requirements 

Bureau Rule Chapter 542

Number of credit hours required for producers and consultants 
The rule requires 24 credit hours every biennium.  Of these 24, at least 3 hours must be for an ethics class.  


Calculation of biennial due dates
Chapter 542 establishes a biennial compliance date for each licensee based upon their month and year of birth. An individual will determine their due date for continuing education by reference first to their birth month, and then, whether they were born in an "odd" or "even" year. The due date will then be the end of the birth month, in an odd or even year.

For example, if a person was born in March, 1965, their continuing education is going to be due by the last day of March in every odd year, such as 2009, 2011, etc.

 
If someone was born in March, 1966, their due date will be the last day of March in 2008, 2010, etc. To view the entire text of Rule 542, please click on the following link:
